EXPLORE! Discover another region of Canada while learning French. Explore offers you five weeks to make discoveries, meet new people, and exchange ideas in a stimulating environment for learning your second language. Explore is a five-week intensive language-learning course. You can take the course in the spring (must be 18+) or summer (must be 16+). You can also take a job for the rest of the summer, if you wish. Participants in Explore receive a $2,000 bursary (taxable income) that covers tuition fees for the course, instructional materials, meals, and accommodation. The educational institution you will be attending receives the bursary directly. Explore offers courses adapted to your level (Beginner, intermediate, or advanced), as well as many activities that allow you to meet with others from across the country who wish to improve their English. The program does not cover the registration fee ($200 non-refundable, to be paid only if you are selected), travel costs to your course location, and spending money while you are there. Bursaries are awarded by random selection, based on provincial and territorial allotments and institutional quotas. Every effort is made to accommodate first-time applicants. SAT'S Students planning on attending a university in the USA need to write SAT's. Information on SAT's is available at the Counselling Department. You are required to write these tests in the event that you are planning to attend an American College or University. The High School Code number for West Kings is 825060. You may be required to write the Sat I and Sat II's which must be written on two separate test dates. You may apply online at www.collegeboard.com. These tests may be written at Kings-Edgehill, Dalhousie University, or Park View Education Centre. The deadline to apply to many American universities is December 31. Please check with the Counselling Department for writing dates for SATs. |
The Canada Student Loan Program The Canada Student Loan Program is administered by the Nova Scotia Department of Education. Awards are based upon financial need. Financial resources of both the parents/guardians and the student are taken into consideration when determining the amount the student will receive. You are asked to keep the working copies of your 2006 Income Tax Return as information on these forms may be required to include on your application for financial assistance. Loan application forms are available online in late April. You are also encouraged to apply online by visiting the web site for Student Loans at www.studentloans.ednet.ns.ca . Please note that you do not have to have a letter of acceptance to make application. You are advised to read very carefully and thoroughly the information booklet which will be enclosed with your application form. Residence Applications In many instances, the university will ask on the application form for admission if you require information on residence. Some institutions have a special application form that you must complete when you apply to the university or college. Please check with the post secondary institution for their specific application procedures. Residence availability is very limited at Memorial University so apply early on separate application form that is available in the Counselling Department. |
