National, Provincial and Local Bursaries
a. Throughout the year we receive information National and Provincial Scholarship and Bursary Programs. Please check our web site on a regular basis for a listing of these awards. You are also asked to check the bulletin board in the Guidance Office for additional information.www.westkings.ednet.ns.ca
b. Entrance Scholarships are awarded by the universities. Most entrance scholarships do not require special application. Please read very carefully the section in the university calendar which provides detailed information on these special awards.
c. Information regarding local Bursaries and Scholarships: Please check our web site on a regular basis for a listing of these awards. You are asked to review the criteria for each award and are encouraged to apply for those for which you meet the eligibility requirements.

d. Forms and Applications that require the school counsellor to complete should be brought to the Guidance Office one week prior to the deadline date. This will allow the counsellors to complete the form and deliver on time to the institution.
e. Students who would like to be considered for a scholarship should attach a detailed résumé and two letters of reference to their application form.

 

The Canada Student Loan Program
The Canada Student Loan Program is administered by the Nova Scotia Department of Education. Awards are based upon financial need. Financial resources of both the parents/guardians and the student are taken into consideration when determining the amount the student will receive.

 

You are asked to keep the working copies of your PREVIOUS YEAR`S Income Tax Return as information on these forms may be required to include on your application for financial assistance. Loan application forms are available online in late April. You are also encouraged to apply online by visiting the web site for Student Loans at www.studentloans.ednet.ns.ca .

 

Please note that you do not have to have a letter of acceptance to make application. You are advised to read very carefully and thoroughly the information booklet which will be enclosed with your application form. The Office is located at the Trade Mart Building, 2021 Brunswick Street, Halifax, NS.

 

Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Financial counsellors are available to assist you to complete the application forms and to answer any questions and/or concerns that you may have.
Some of the major banks have student financial assistance programs. You may wish to consult with these financial institutions for more detailed information.
